Biography
Shane M. Goodridge, Ph.D., is Associate Professor of Teaching in the School of Education at the University of California, Irvine. Goodridge focuses on the history of American education policy, with particular attention to the impact of broad historical forces on the evolution of American public education. His work examines the historical and philosophical foundations of American educational institutions and policy development.
Prior to his current position, Goodridge served as Assistant Dean of Trinity College of Arts and Science at Duke University from 2015 to 2017, where he oversaw 650 undergraduates and the Robertson Scholars Program while also serving as Visiting Assistant Professor in Public Policy and Education. Before joining Duke, he was a Lecturer at UC Irvine's School of Education from 2007 to 2012. Goodridge also taught at the secondary level in Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States, including positions at schools in Vancouver, London, and Newport Coast, California.
Goodridge received his Ph.D. in Education: Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Victoria in 2013, where his dissertation examined the historical and philosophical legitimacy of the American charter school movement. He also holds an M.A. in History from the University of London. His book, "American Education History and the World that Shaped it," was published by Cognella Publishing in 2025.
