Arshi Shahin
Biography
Arshi Shahin is an Associate Specialist and Laboratory Manager in the Department of Neurobiology and Behavior at the University of California, Irvine. Shahin leads laboratory operations and functional genomics workflows supporting large-scale neurodegeneration and addiction research programs, with a focus on high-throughput, reproducible multi-omic data generation. In the UCI MODEL-AD consortium, Shahin generates sequencing-ready multi-omic libraries, including bulk and single-nucleus RNA-seq and ATAC-seq, for model characterization and mechanistic studies, implementing stringent quality control gates, standardized protocols, and batch documentation to improve cross-cohort comparability and reduce technical variability. Shahin also supports the NIDA U01 addiction-focused molecular profiling program through scalable transcriptomic and epigenomic library production, sample logistics, and metadata tracking.
Shahin performs end-to-end library preparation activities including sample and nuclei processing, nucleic acid quantification, indexing strategy execution, library construction, and pre-sequencing quality assessment, while maintaining complete records for traceability. Shahin drives workflow optimization and throughput improvements, including automation-enabled steps using the Eppendorf epMotion platform, to increase consistency and reduce turnaround time while maintaining high quality control standards. Shahin trains and supervises trainees and staff in nuclei handling, nucleic acid best practices, contamination control, and quality control interpretation, and enforces compliance with laboratory safety and data integrity practices.
Shahin contributed to the 2025 Science Advances publication "Single-nucleus multi-omics identifies shared and distinct pathways in Pick's and Alzheimer's disease" by preparing RNA-seq libraries supporting the study's multi-omic profiling and downstream analyses. Shahin oversees procurement, inventory forecasting, chemical compliance, and instrument readiness to ensure uninterrupted high-throughput sequencing library production. Shahin holds an M.B.A. in Human Resource Management from Alagappa University, India, an M.A. in Mass Communications and Public Relations from Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth, India, and a B.A. in English and Journalism from Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth, India.
