Biography

Siyoung Ha, Ph.D., is an Associate Project Scientist in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of California, Irvine. Ha received a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Chung-Ang University in Seoul, South Korea. Ha's research focuses on genome editing and delivery systems, with prior work spanning the development of biomarkers and drug targets in prostate cancer, biosensor technologies, and drug delivery systems.

Ha has authored or co-authored over 30 peer-reviewed publications in journals including Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, ACS Nano, and Advanced Materials. Ha's research has addressed diverse topics including the development of siderophore-functionalized nanodrugs for antibiotic-resistant bacteria, biosensor technologies for disease detection, and molecular mechanisms of drug resistance in cancer. Ha has contributed to the identification of aberrant PI3Kδ splice isoforms as biomarkers and therapeutic targets in endocrine and prostate cancers, with particular focus on treatment resistance mechanisms.

Ha has filed two patent applications related to cancer biomarkers and biosensor technologies. Ha has presented research at multiple conferences including the American Association for Cancer Research and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. Prior to joining UC Irvine, Ha held research positions at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology, and completed postdoctoral training at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
