Serguei Kolos
Specialist at University of California, Irvine
Biography
Serguei Kolos is a Specialist at the University of California, Irvine, where he has served since 2003. He received a Master's degree in physics from St. Petersburg State University in 1993. Kolos has been a central figure in the development of the ATLAS experiment's Trigger and Data Acquisition (TDAQ) system at CERN, contributing to its architecture and implementation over more than two decades.
As Coordinator of the ATLAS Monitoring Working Group, Kolos has been responsible for the design, implementation, commissioning, and operational support of the online monitoring system for the ATLAS experiment. He served as the principal software architect of the online monitoring system, which has been in operational use for ATLAS data taking since 2010. He also designed and developed the ATLAS remote monitoring facility, which provides real-time streaming of online monitoring information to the CERN public network for worldwide secure access. His early work at the Petersburg Nuclear Physics Institute and CERN included developing the model for distributed information exchange for the ATLAS TDAQ system and implementing a distributed information sharing system that became the foundation for all monitoring information exchange in the ATLAS online environment.
Kolos has been a principal contributor to several components of the ATLAS TDAQ system for detector upgrades, including the Software Read-out Driver and its evolution, the Data Handler component for the High Luminosity LHC. He is the principal architect and lead developer of the new Physics Monitoring system for the ATLAS experiment upgrade for the High Luminosity LHC. He has delivered lectures at the ISOTDAQ International Schools of Trigger and Data Acquisition from 2016 to 2024 and has given invited talks at international conferences and institutions on distributed object systems and ATLAS monitoring strategies.
