Scott E. Rudkin

Biography

Scott E. Rudkin, M.D., M.B.A., is Deputy Chief of Emergency Medicine at the Tibor Rubin VA Medical Center and HS Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of California, Irvine, where he also serves as Program Director of the Clinical Informatics Fellowship. Rudkin holds board certification in both Emergency Medicine and Clinical Informatics. He earned his M.D. from UC Irvine School of Medicine with junior election to Alpha Omega Alpha, completed an Emergency Medicine residency at UC Irvine where he served as Academic Chief Resident and received the Resident of the Year award, and subsequently completed a Medical Informatics Fellowship at UC Irvine. He also holds an M.B.A. from UC Irvine's Graduate School of Management, where he graduated first in his class and was recognized as a Dean's Scholar.

Rudkin served as Chief Medical Information Officer at UC Irvine from 2015 to 2022, leading the implementation and optimization of electronic health record systems across the academic medical center. During his tenure, he chaired the Inpatient EMR Governance Committee and served on multiple executive committees focused on clinical quality, patient safety, and information technology governance. His work in clinical informatics has focused on improving clinical documentation, reducing healthcare-associated infections through electronic health record interventions, and optimizing physician workflow. He received the Physician Leader of the Year Award from the American Medical Informatics Association in 2021.

Rudkin is a Fellow of both the American Academy of Emergency Medicine and the American College of Emergency Physicians. He has published extensively on topics including emergency medicine practice, clinical informatics, and electronic health record implementation, and has served on the editorial boards of the Western Journal of Emergency Medicine and California Journal of Emergency Medicine. He has held numerous leadership positions within professional organizations, including serving on the Board of Directors of the California Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians and chairing its Medical Informatics Committee. Rudkin received his Ph.D. equivalent terminal degree (M.D.) from the University of California, Irvine.
