Biography
Steven Yang, M.D., M.B.A., is an Associate Clinical Professor and Chief of the Division of Arthroplasty in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine, and serves as Outpatient Medical Director of Orthopaedic Surgery at UCI Health. He specializes in primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty, including technology-assisted and robotic knee replacement, alignment strategies in total knee arthroplasty, the direct anterior approach to total hip arthroplasty, and the treatment of periprosthetic joint infection. Yang received his M.D. from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, and completed an adult hip and knee reconstruction fellowship at Columbia University Medical Center. He also holds an M.B.A. in Health Sector Policy and Management from the University of Miami.
His research focuses on perioperative optimization and risk stratification in total joint arthroplasty, outcomes of technology-assisted hip and knee replacement, two-stage revision for infection, and metal hypersensitivity in total knee arthroplasty. He is particularly interested in the intersection of artificial intelligence, robotics, and orthopaedic surgery, including machine learning applications for perioperative care and outcomes. He teaches in the UCI orthopaedic surgery residency program, serves as faculty for national arthroplasty education courses, and is a peer reviewer for the Journal of Arthroplasty. Yang is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and was named a 2027 Physician of Excellence by the Orange County Medical Association.
