Tanjeeb Ahmed
Biography
Tanjeeb Ahmed, Ph.D., is an Assistant Project Scientist at the Institute of Transportation Studies at the University of California, Irvine. A transportation scientist specializing in travel behavior analysis and demand modeling, Ahmed has led technical analysis on multiple California state-funded projects for agencies including Caltrans, the California Air Resources Board (CARB), and the California Office of Traffic Safety. His work focuses on agent-based modeling, freight monitoring systems, multimodal planning, and accessibility evaluation for transportation systems.
Ahmed secured a CARB research grant of $150,000 for a co-authored project developing an accessibility and activity-based evaluation framework through competitive proposal. His research has examined the impacts of emerging mobility technologies, including ride-hailing services and shared automated vehicles, on travel behavior and employment accessibility in California. He has developed freight monitoring systems using multi-sensor fusion along California corridors for emissions reduction applications and conducted equity analyses of automated vehicle deployment impacts on disadvantaged communities.
Ahmed received a Ph.D. in Transportation Science from the University of California, Irvine, where his dissertation explored activity-travel chaining behavior, peak-period travel implications, and ride-hailing's role in trip chains. Prior to his doctoral studies, he was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship for his M.S. in Transportation Science at UC Irvine and served as an Assistant Professor at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology. Ahmed has reviewed over 40 journal papers for transportation research publications and has presented his research at the Transportation Research Board Annual Meeting and the International Conference on Travel Behavior Research.
