Jordi Vendrell

Biography

Jordi Vendrell is an Assistant Specialist in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Irvine, where he holds J-1 Scholar status. He earned his Master's degree in Structural Engineering from Escola Tècnica Superior d'Enginyeria Industrial de Barcelona (ETSEIB - UPC) and completed additional graduate studies in structural engineering at the University of California, Irvine. His work focuses on structural modeling, ground motion selection and scaling, nonlinear time history analysis, and the development of advanced methods in earthquake engineering.

Vendrell's research examines ground motion directionality and its implications for structural design and assessment, which formed the basis of his Master's thesis. His technical expertise spans structural dynamics, performance-based earthquake engineering, and finite element analysis. Prior to his current appointment, he served as a Visiting Graduate Student Researcher at UCI, where he collaborated on research in ground-motion analysis and structural dynamics.

In addition to his academic research, Vendrell founded Epsilon Structural Engineering, where he provides structural analysis, evaluation, design, and project management services. His professional experience includes structural engineering work for clients such as LaLiga, MEDIAPRO, and TMB Barcelona Subway. He previously worked as a mechanical and structural design engineer intern at GE General Electric, analyzing bolted joints on composite materials for offshore wind turbines, and as a research student at the Department of Strength of Materials and Structures in Engineering at ETSEIB UPC.
