Biography
Weihong Wang is an Assistant Project Scientist in the Department of Chemistry at the University of California, Irvine. Wang completed a Ph.D. in Chemistry at UC Irvine in 2000, where they also earned a Master of Science degree in 1997. They received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Science and Technology of China in 1988. Prior to their current role, Wang has held positions as a researcher at the same institution and as a teaching assistant during their graduate studies.
Wang’s research primarily investigates atmospheric chemistry, with a focus on the oxidation processes of organic compounds by atmospheric oxidants such as OH radicals and ozone. They have co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in journals like Science Advances and the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Their research collaborations include studies on the environmental fate of neonicotinoid pesticides and the reactions of nitrogen-containing compounds. Wang's work has been recognized with awards such as the Graduate Student Award in Environmental Chemistry from the American Chemical Society.
In addition to their research, Wang contributes to the academic community through presentations at national and international scientific conferences. They have shared their findings at events such as the American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting and the ACS National Meeting. Throughout their career, Wang has been involved in mentoring graduate students and participating in collaborative research projects that advance the understanding of atmospheric chemical processes.
