Yun-San Huang

Biography

Yun-San (Amy) Huang, M.D., M.P.H., is Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of California, Irvine, where she also serves as Associate Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency and Department of Medicine Wellness Officer. She received her Doctor of Medicine from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in 2006 and her Master of Public Health from the University of Illinois School of Public Health in 2011. Board certified in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, Huang completed her combined Medicine-Pediatrics residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago Medical Center, where she served as Chief Resident.

Huang's clinical and academic work focuses on primary care, medical education, and transitions of care. She has directed multiple educational initiatives, including creating the MED 434 Internal Medicine Primary Care elective at UC San Diego and co-directing the Medical Mandarin Elective at UC Irvine. Her research has centered on quality improvement projects related to transitions of care, particularly helping teenage patients transition from pediatric to adult medical care at federally qualified health centers. She has also been involved in global health education, having initiated and directed the Med-Peds Global Community Health Track at the University of Illinois at Chicago, which included community-based participatory research in the Dominican Republic.

Throughout her career, Huang has maintained an active role in medical education across all levels of training, serving as a clinical preceptor, course director, and faculty advisor. She has held faculty positions at the University of Illinois at Chicago, UC San Diego, and UC Irvine, and has been involved in numerous residency program committees including Clinical Competency Committees and recruitment committees. Huang is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a member of the Society of General Internal Medicine and the American College of Physicians. She has provided volunteer medical care through organizations including the Tzuchi International Medical Association, participating in medical missions across multiple countries, and the San Diego Asylum Seekers Shelter.
